The Rainger Duo 180° Awning is a freestanding side awning that throws clean, broad shade down one side of your vehicle without wrapping around the rear — making it the go-to choice for wagons with lift-up tailgates, dual cabs with cab-mounted or canopy-mounted setups, or anyone who needs unrestricted rear access and the simplest possible shade solution for serious touring. Two arms at the front, two arms at the rear, two ratchet ropes, two drop-down legs. Symmetrical, balanced, and rock-solid once tensioned.
At approximately 23kg with a 2.0M arm reach, this is a properly capable side awning with the same build quality, canvas and integrated LED lighting as our 270° Duo range — just in a 180° layout that keeps the rear of the vehicle completely clear. Mount it on the left, mount it on the right, or run two and ratchet rope them together across the roof for full side-to-side coverage.
Built from 280GSM blackout ripstop canvas in Desert Tan or Midnight Black, with integrated dual-colour LED lighting on all four arms. Shade by day, light by night — without a single extra accessory to buy or set up.
In stock. Ships Australia-wide from Baringa, QLD.

180° Side Awning — Why It Beats a 270° on Some Setups
A 270° awning wraps from the side around to the rear of the vehicle. That is great for many setups — but it creates problems on others. If your vehicle has a lift-up tailgate, a rear-mounted spare tire that needs clearance, or you need unrestricted access to the back of the vehicle at all times, a 270° is going to get in the way.
The 180° Duo solves this by keeping all coverage on one side. The rear of your vehicle stays completely clear.
-
180° side coverage — broad shade down one full side of the vehicle
-
Rear stays clear — no interference with lift-up tailgates, rear doors, spare wheels or rear-mounted accessories
-
Left or right side mounting — install on whichever side suits your setup
-
Symmetrical 4-arm layout — 2 front arms, 2 rear arms for balanced, stable coverage
-
2.0M arm reach — serious shade coverage without excessive overhang
The symmetrical design with 2 arms at each end also means the awning sits balanced on its mounting points. Wind loads are distributed evenly rather than concentrated at one end like a 270° pivot design. Two ratchet ropes and two legs give you a solid, level canopy across the full length.
Run Two — Full Side-to-Side Coverage
The Duo 180° can be mounted on the left side, the right side, or both. Two awnings — one per side — ratchet roped together across the roof creates a full side-to-side canopy that covers both flanks of the vehicle simultaneously.
-
Left side, right side, or both — fully versatile mounting
-
Ratchet rope the two together across the roof for a continuous overhead canopy
- Each awning operates independently — deploy one or both depending on the situation
This is a setup for people who want maximum camp coverage without a single 270° awning wrapping the rear. Both sides get shade, the rear stays completely clear, and each awning can be deployed or packed independently.
Note: Running a dual 180° setup requires 2 x awnings (sold individually). On some setups this may block side access to a rooftop tent — check your tent entry position before committing to a dual-side configuration.
Setup — Two Ropes, Two Legs, Solid and Level
The Duo 180° sets up fast with a straightforward process. The symmetrical 4-arm design means both ends deploy the same way — no left-right confusion, no sequencing to remember.
- Unzip the PVC bag and lift it over the top of the awning
- Release the nylon straps holding the canvas up
- Swing the front and rear arm pairs out to their full 180° position
- Connect both ratchet ropes to suitable tie-down points and tension
-
Optional: Drop one or both telescopic legs for additional support
-
Optional: Tie down arm ends with guy ropes in gusty conditions
-
Optional: Attach zipper wall kits for extra shade or wind protection
Two ratchet ropes and two telescopic legs give you a level, stable canopy across the full length of the awning. Because the load is distributed across both ends rather than hanging off a single pivot point, the 180° feels planted and solid once tensioned.
Pack-down is the same steps in reverse. Both ends fold in symmetrically, straps go on, bag goes over, zip it shut.
Integrated LED Lighting — Shade by Day, Light by Night
The Duo 180° includes LED lighting strips built into all four awning arms — the same system used across the entire Duo range. When the arms swing out, the lights are already in position.
-
LED strips on all 4 arms (most competing brands light only 3)
-
Dual-colour output — warm white for camp ambience, cool white for task lighting
-
2 separate USB-A dimmer controllers — independent zone control
- Powered via 5V USB-A — plug into your power bank, vehicle USB, or battery system (power source not included)
To get the lights running, plug the 4 push-in connectors into the arms and connect the dimmer controllers to any USB-A power source. Takes a minute.
With a 180° layout, the two lighting zones map naturally to the front and rear halves of the awning. Run bright task lighting over the camp kitchen area and dim warm light over the seating area — or light up the entire side evenly. Most awnings give you one switch for the lot.
280GSM Blackout Ripstop Canvas
The Duo 180° uses 280GSM blackout ripstop canvas — the same fabric as our 270° models. Substantially heavier and more UV-resistant than the 200–220GSM polyester used on many competing awnings.
- 280GSM blackout ripstop construction
- Full blackout underside — reduces radiant heat beneath the awning
- UV-rated for sustained Australian sun exposure
- Ripstop grid helps prevent small tears from spreading across the panel
The blackout underside blocks heat transmission that standard canvas lets straight through, creating a noticeably cooler and more comfortable space beneath — especially during midday in northern Australia.
Available in Desert Tan with coffee-brown nylon edging or Midnight Black for a more universal stealth look. Both colourways match the Revo-X roof top tent and 270° awning range for a cohesive touring setup.
Wall Kit Ready — Proper Zippers, Not Velcro
The Duo 180° comes pre-fitted with proper outdoor zippers at every wall attachment point — not Velcro. Velcro loses grip when dirty, wears out over time, and lets wind pull walls away from the awning edge. Zippers hold firm, seal properly, and last.
-
Numbered labels at each wall position so you know exactly which wall goes where
-
Full outdoor-rated zippers pre-installed on the awning at each wall attachment point
- Wall kits sold separately — straight walls and angled walls available to suit different configurations
A 180° awning with wall kits creates a clean, fully enclosed side shelter — perfect for wind protection, privacy, or creating a defined camp area alongside the vehicle.
Stability — Two Legs, Two Ratchet Ropes, Rain Tabs and Tie-Downs
The symmetrical 180° layout distributes load across both ends, giving you a naturally balanced and stable canopy. The stability system includes:
-
2 x integrated telescopic drop-down legs — height-adjustable, one at each end for level support across the full awning length
-
2 x easy-pull ratchet ropes with hooks — one at each end for independent tensioning
-
3 x rain tabs — stitched at the top of the seam between each arm pair: one between the two middle arms and one in the middle of each outer arm pair. Tie a guy rope to each tab to pull the canvas down in the centre, creating rain channels so water runs off instead of pooling
-
4 x arm-end tie-down points — located at the end of each arm for guy rope anchoring to the ground in wind
Two ratchet ropes means you can independently adjust tension at the front and rear of the awning — useful on uneven ground or when wind is coming from one direction. Two legs give you a level canopy across the full length rather than a single support point at one corner.
In sustained wind, use the arm-end tie-down points with guy ropes and pegs for additional anchoring. Like any fabric awning, pack it away in severe storm conditions.
1000GSM PVC Awning Bag
The awning packs into a 1000GSM black PVC bag that sits against the side of your vehicle when not in use.
- 1000GSM PVC construction — heavy-duty, UV-stable, wipe-clean
- Rubber patch branding — not a cheap screen print. Will not fade, peel or deteriorate over time
- Internal anti-wick tongue under the zipper — reduces water tracking into the bag when driving in rain
- Velcro storm flaps at the front and rear panels of the bag — secondary water protection covering the most exposed sections when driving into rain
These details limit how much water gets into the bag in the first place — but they do not eliminate it entirely. If your awning gets wet, air it out before long-term storage. Water sitting inside a closed bag for extended periods will cause mould on any canvas, regardless of brand. Check the bag periodically, especially after wet trips, and open it up to dry if needed.

Vehicle Compatibility
The 180° Duo suits virtually any touring vehicle. Because it covers one side only and does not wrap to the rear, it avoids tailgate interference entirely — making it the cleanest option for wagons, SUVs and any vehicle where rear access matters.

The awning mounts to roof racks, canopy roof rails, crossbars, or directly to a Revo-X roof top tent via our dedicated brackets. Your rack and brackets must be strong enough to support the full weight of the awning — it hangs entirely from the mounting surface.
Not sure what fits? Contact us with your vehicle, rack or canopy brand and a photo of your setup — we will confirm the right awning and bracket combination before anything ships.
Mounting and Brackets — Get It Right the First Time
Mounting brackets are sold separately because no single bracket fits every setup on the market. Rather than including a generic bracket that may not work for your rig, we offer purpose-matched options:
-
Rainger Revo-X Awning Brackets — designed to mount directly to the Revo-X RTT dual bottom track with support from the third T-slot channel. The Revo-X is a complete ecosystem — the tent, awning and brackets are all designed to work together.
-
Rainger Universal L-Brackets — 7-way adjustable, suits most roof rack and canopy rail setups
-
Rack-specific brackets — some manufacturers (Rhino Rack, ARB, Front Runner) offer brackets designed for their own systems
Mounting Best Practices for 180° Awnings
The 180° layout is symmetrical, so bracket positioning is different from a 270° awning:
-
Space brackets evenly from the centre — position them as wide apart and as central as possible along the mounting rail
-
Minimum 1,000mm spacing between brackets
-
As wide as your rack or RTT allows — the further apart the brackets are, the better the load distribution across the full length of the awning
Because the 180° has balanced load at both ends (unlike a 270° which concentrates load at the rear pivot), even bracket spacing from the centre gives you the most stable mounting.
Universal brackets provided by most awning brands rarely work well across the full range of Australian setups. Getting the bracket solution right the first time saves you buying a second set later.
Contact us before ordering if you are unsure — we will walk you through what works best for your specific vehicle and rack setup.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a 180° and a 270° awning?
A 180° awning covers one side of the vehicle only — it does not wrap around to the rear. A 270° awning wraps from the side across the rear. The 180° is the better choice if you need your rear tailgate, doors or spare wheel completely unobstructed, or if you want to run a dual-awning setup with one on each side. The 270° gives you more total coverage area from a single awning. Both are freestanding and include integrated LED lighting.
Can I mount the 180° awning on either side of my vehicle?
Yes. The 180° Duo can be mounted on the left side or the right side — choose whichever suits your setup and preferred campsite layout. The symmetrical design works the same on either side.
Can I run two 180° awnings for full side-to-side coverage?
Yes. Mount one on each side and ratchet rope them together across the roof for a continuous overhead canopy. Each awning operates independently, so you can deploy one or both depending on the situation. This requires 2 x awnings (sold individually). Note that on some setups, dual 180° awnings may block side access to a rooftop tent — check your tent entry position before committing to this configuration.
Will the 180° awning interfere with my lift-up tailgate?
No. The 180° awning covers one side only and does not extend across the rear of the vehicle. Your tailgate, rear door and rear-mounted accessories stay completely clear. This is one of the main reasons buyers choose the 180° over a 270° on wagons and SUVs with lift-up tailgates.
Is the 180° awning compatible with the Revo-X roof top tent?
Yes. The 180° Duo is fully compatible with the Rainger Revo-X rooftop tent using our purpose-built awning brackets. The Revo-X is a complete ecosystem — tent, awning and brackets are all designed to work together. The 180° is a good match for Revo-X owners who want side shade without any rear obstruction.
How long does it take to set up?
Under 30 seconds once you have done it a couple of times. Unzip the bag, lift it over, release the straps, swing the arms out, connect both ratchet ropes and tension. One person, no tools. The symmetrical design means both ends deploy the same way — no sequencing to remember.
What brackets do I need for the 180° awning?
Brackets are sold separately because no single bracket fits every rack, canopy and vehicle combination. Rainger offers Revo-X-specific awning brackets, universal 7-way adjustable L-brackets for most setups, and guidance on rack-specific options from Rhino Rack, ARB and Front Runner. For the 180° awning, brackets should be spaced evenly from the centre with a minimum of 1,000mm apart, as wide as your rack allows. Contact us with your vehicle and setup details and we will confirm the right bracket before you order.
Can I add extra legs to the awning?
Yes. Additional telescopic legs are sold separately. The 180° already has integrated legs on the outer parallel-facing arms. Extra legs would go on the front and rear arms — however, depending on your mounting position, those arm ends may be blocked by the bonnet, a scrub bar, wheel flares, a canopy edge or other vehicle features. Check your setup after purchasing to see if extra leg positions are practical. In most cases you will not need them — tie down with guy ropes on the front and rear arm ends instead, and let the strength of the awning pivots and the two included legs do the work.
How does the LED lighting work?
The LED strips are built into the awning arms. Once deployed, plug the 4 push-in connectors into the arms and connect the 2 USB-A dimmer controllers to any USB-A power source — a power bank, vehicle USB outlet, or camp battery system. The power source is not included. Each dimmer controls a separate lighting zone so you can adjust brightness and colour temperature independently across the front and rear halves of the awning.
Will the 180° awning handle strong wind?
The 180° handles wind well thanks to its symmetrical design distributing load evenly across both ends. Two ratchet ropes and two legs give you a stable, balanced canopy. In gusty conditions, use the arm-end tie-down points with guy ropes and pegs for additional anchoring. The rain tabs help maintain canvas shape in rain. Like any fabric awning, pack it away in severe storm conditions to avoid damage.
