The Rainger Duo 2.5M is a large freestanding 270 degree awning built for full-size touring vehicles, wagons and ute canopy setups that need serious shade coverage without complicated setup. It swings out from the passenger side in one smooth motion, wraps 270° across the side and rear of your rig, and is tensioned and ready to use in seconds. After dark, integrated dual-colour LED lighting across all four arms turns your campsite into a properly lit, usable space.
This is a 4-arm 270° awning with no front arms — one pivot point at the rear, one ratchet rope, done. At approximately 24kg, it is genuinely one of the easiest large awnings to set up and pack down on the market. Built from 280GSM blackout ripstop canvas in Desert Tan or Midnight Black, the full blackout underside keeps the shaded area noticeably cooler than standard canvas awnings.
Now standard with D Zip and rear water channel flap. The D Zip is a zippered opening in the roof of the awning that gives you access to your rooftop tent from underneath — handy for passing gear up, letting light through, or climbing into your RTT on ute and canopy setups. The rear water channel flap uses rare earth magnets to sit against the vehicle roof, directing rain away from the back door of wagons.

4-Arm Freestanding 270° — The Simplest Large Awning Setup Going
The Duo 2.5M is a 4-arm 270 degree awning that wraps from the passenger side across the rear of the vehicle. No front arms. One pivot point at the back. Swing it around, tension the ratchet rope, and you are done.
-
270° wrap across the passenger side and rear
-
No front arms — open, walkable campsite space from the moment the awning is out
-
Freestanding — hangs from your mounting surface (rack, canopy or RTT) without needing ground contact to hold its shape
-
2.5M arm length — the longest reach in the Duo range for maximum shade coverage
Because there are no front arms to unfold, lock and position, the entire setup is one continuous motion. The simplicity is the advantage — fewer parts, fewer steps, fewer things to go wrong at the end of a long day.
The 2.5M arm length suits full-size touring vehicles: 200 Series, Patrol, Ranger, Prado, BT-50, Triton, D-Max, Pajero, American trucks, and large wagon or canopy setups where the extra reach actually gets used. If you are running a shorter wheelbase or compact rig, the 1.7M Jimny/SWB model or the 2.0M 6ARM model may be a better match.
Your rack and brackets need to be strong enough to support the awning — it hangs entirely from the mounting surface. We sell purpose-designed brackets for the Revo-X and universal options for other rack setups. Contact us if you are unsure what your setup needs.
Setup in Seconds — One Person, Every Time
The Duo 2.5M goes from packed to fully deployed in under 30 seconds once you have done it a couple of times. One person. No tools. No help needed.
- Unzip the PVC bag and lift it over the top of the awning
- Release the 3 nylon straps holding the canvas up
- Connect the ratchet rope to the end attachment point
- Walk the awning around to its full 270° position
- Connect the ratchet rope to a suitable tie-down point on the other side of the vehicle and tension it
-
Optional: Drop the telescopic leg for additional support
-
Optional: Tie down with guy ropes in gusty conditions
-
Optional: Attach zipper wall kits for extra shade or wind protection
That is the entire process. The ratchet rope does the work — once it is tensioned, the awning is set. The telescopic leg is there if you want additional support, but the awning holds its shape without it.
Pack-down is the same steps in reverse. Arms fold back, straps go on, bag goes over, zip it shut. For touring setups where you move camp daily or set up late after a long drive, this speed is the difference between actually using your awning and leaving it packed because it is too much effort.
Integrated LED Lighting — Shade by Day, Light by Night
The Duo 2.5M includes LED lighting strips built into all four awning arms. When the arms swing out, the lights are already in position — no separate light bars to mount, no cable-tying strips to poles, no forgetting them at home.
-
LED strips on all 4 arms (most competing brands light only 3)
-
Dual-colour output — warm white for camp ambience, cool white for task lighting
-
2 separate USB-A dimmer controllers — independent zone control
- Powered via 5V USB-A — plug into your power bank, vehicle USB, or battery system (power source not included)
To get the lights running, plug the 4 push-in connectors into the arms and connect the dimmer controllers to any USB-A power source. Takes a minute.
Two dimmer controllers give you independent lighting zones. Run warm light at the camp kitchen end and brighter cool light where you are working on gear — or dim everything down for a quiet evening without killing all the light at once. Most awnings give you one switch for the lot.
280GSM Blackout Ripstop Canvas
The Duo 2.5M uses 280GSM blackout ripstop canvas — substantially heavier and more UV-resistant than the 200–220GSM polyester used on many competing 270 awnings.
- 280GSM blackout ripstop construction
- Full blackout underside — reduces radiant heat beneath the awning
- UV-rated for sustained Australian sun exposure
- Ripstop grid helps prevent small tears from spreading across the panel
The blackout underside is the detail most people notice first. Standard awning canvas lets light and heat through from above, so the shade underneath is still warm and bright. A blackout layer blocks that transmission, creating a noticeably cooler and more comfortable space beneath — especially during midday in northern Australia.
Available in Desert Tan with coffee-brown nylon edging or Midnight Black for a more universal stealth look. Both colourways are designed to match the Revo-X roof top tent range for a cohesive touring setup.
Wall Kit Ready — Proper Zippers, Not Velcro
The Duo 2.5M comes pre-fitted with proper outdoor zippers at every wall attachment point — not Velcro. Velcro is the cheap way to attach awning walls. It loses grip when dirty, wears out over time, and lets wind pull walls away from the awning edge. Zippers hold firm, seal properly, and last.
-
Numbered labels at each wall position so you know exactly which wall goes where — no guessing during setup
-
Full outdoor-rated zippers pre-installed on the awning at each wall attachment point
- Wall kits sold separately — straight walls and angled walls available to suit different configurations
This is uncommon. Most awning brands either do not offer wall compatibility at all, or use Velcro attachment which compromises the seal and durability. The Duo comes ready for walls straight out of the bag — just buy the wall kit you need and zip it on.
D Zip Roof Access and Rear Water Channel Flap
The Duo 2.5M comes standard with two features that add real versatility beyond basic shade coverage.
D Zip — Roof Access Through the Awning
The D Zip is a zippered opening in the roof of the awning canopy. Unzip it and you have direct access up to your rooftop tent from underneath.
- Access your RTT from underneath on ute and canopy setups where a rear ladder goes up to the tent
- Pass gear, phones, chargers or coffees up into the tent without going around to the side ladder
- Let light and airflow through on overcast days when the awning feels dark underneath
- Unzip to reduce wind catch — creates an opening so gusts pass through instead of loading the canvas
On a wagon with a spare tire on the back, the D Zip is less likely to be your primary tent access — most wagon setups use the side ladder as normal. But even then, it is useful for ventilation, passing things up, or reducing wind load when conditions pick up.
On a ute or canopy setup with a rear-mounted ladder, the D Zip becomes a practical entry point into the tent. Unzip, climb up, zip it closed behind you.
Why Our D Zip Works — When Most Do Not
D Zips are uncommon on competing awnings for a simple reason: most manufacturers have not worked out how to stop them leaking. The Duo awning was designed from the start with the D Zip in mind — it is not a feature bolted on as an afterthought.
-
Purpose-selected waterproof zipper rated for the application
-
PU-lined and vacuum heat-sealed seams around the D Zip opening
-
D Zip shape engineered for maximum water runoff — water runs around the outskirts of the opening as it flows down the fabric, so very little reaches the zip face
-
Top flap protects the zip from above, adding a further layer of water diversion
The result is a D Zip that works reliably without compromise. We do not even charge extra for it — it is standard on this model.
Rear Water Channel Flap
The rear edge of the awning includes a flap with rare earth magnets that sits against the vehicle roof. On steel or magnetisable surfaces, the magnets hold the flap in position and create a water channel that directs rain away from the back door of wagons — stopping water running down between the awning and the vehicle and dripping onto you when you open the tailgate.
On alloy canopies or non-magnetic surfaces, the magnets will not grip, but the flap still provides a degree of water management through its position and overlap.
Stability — Anti-Pooling Legs, Rain Tabs, Tie-Downs and Telescopic Leg
The Duo 2.5M includes multiple systems for managing water runoff and stability in varying conditions:
-
2 x anti-pooling stand-up legs — hold the canvas up in key areas to prevent water sitting on the awning surface during rain
-
4 x rain tabs — stitched into the middle of each arm, right at the top of the seam. Tie a guy rope to each tab and it pulls the canvas down in the centre, creating a rain channel so water runs off the top of the awning instead of pooling. Because the tab is stitched from the top of the seam, no water pools at the end of the seam either.
-
4 x arm-end tie-down points — located at the end of each arm for direct guy rope anchoring to the ground when additional stability is needed in wind
-
1 x telescopic drop-down leg — height-adjustable, provides additional vertical support at the outer corner (optional use)
-
1 x easy-pull ratchet rope with hook — the primary tensioning system
The ratchet rope is what holds the awning taut. Tension it properly and the awning is set. The telescopic leg adds extra support if you want it — useful in windy conditions or if you prefer the look and feel of a supported outer edge — but the awning holds its shape without it.
In sustained wind, use the arm-end tie-down points with guy ropes and pegs for additional anchoring. Like any fabric awning, pack it away in severe storm conditions.
1000GSM PVC Awning Bag
The awning packs into a 1000GSM black PVC bag that sits against the side of your vehicle when not in use.
- 1000GSM PVC construction — heavy-duty, UV-stable, wipe-clean
- Rubber patch branding — not a cheap screen print. Will not fade, peel or deteriorate over time
- Internal anti-wick tongue under the zipper — reduces water tracking into the bag when driving in rain (standard zippers are not waterproof, and water entering through the zipper is one of the most common causes of mould in 270 awning bags across the market)
- Velcro storm flaps at the front and rear panels of the bag — secondary water protection covering the most exposed sections when driving into rain
These details limit how much water gets into the bag in the first place — but they do not eliminate it entirely. If your awning gets wet, air it out before long-term storage. Water sitting inside a closed bag for extended periods will cause mould on any canvas, regardless of brand. Check the bag periodically, especially after wet trips, and open it up to dry if needed.

Vehicle Compatibility
The 2.5M arm length suits virtually any full-size touring vehicle, dual-cab ute, wagon or canopy setup. Common vehicles include:
- Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series / 300 Series
- Toyota Prado 120 / 150
- Toyota HiLux
- Nissan Patrol Y62
- Ford Ranger / Everest
- Mitsubishi Triton
- Mitsubishi Pajero
- Isuzu D-Max / MU-X
- Mazda BT-50
- RAM 1500 / Ford F-150 and similar American trucks
The awning mounts to roof racks, canopy roof rails, or directly to a Revo-X roof top tent via our dedicated brackets. Your rack and brackets must be strong enough to support the full weight of the awning — it hangs entirely from the mounting surface.
If you are running a compact rig like a Jimny, Jeep Wrangler 2-door or Suzuki Sierra, the 1.7M model is designed specifically for those setups.
Lift-up tailgate note (300 Series, Pajero Sport, wagons): If your vehicle has a rear lift-up tailgate, the awning should be mounted as high as possible. In some cases the tailgate may still contact the awning fabric when opened. If this is a real concern for your setup, consider the Duo 180° Awning instead — it is fully side-mounted and will not interfere with any rear tailgate.
Not sure what fits? Contact us with your vehicle, rack or canopy brand and a photo of your setup — we will confirm the right awning and bracket combination before anything ships.
Mounting and Brackets — Get It Right the First Time
Mounting brackets are sold separately because no single bracket fits every setup on the market. Rather than including a generic bracket that may not work for your rig, we offer purpose-matched options:
-
Rainger Revo-X Awning Brackets — designed to mount directly to the Revo-X RTT dual bottom track with support from the third T-slot channel. The Revo-X is a complete ecosystem — the tent, awning and brackets are all designed to work together.
-
Rainger Universal L-Brackets — 7-way adjustable, suits most roof rack and canopy rail setups
-
Rack-specific brackets — some manufacturers (Rhino Rack, ARB, Front Runner) offer brackets designed for their own systems
Mounting Best Practices
For the best result with this style of 270° awning:
-
Rear bracket first — mount the rearmost bracket as close to the awning pivot point as possible. This is the most important mounting position and carries the most load.
-
Minimum 1,000mm spacing — space the front bracket at least 1,000mm forward from the rear bracket. This is the minimum for adequate support.
-
Front bracket as far forward as possible — if your rack or rooftop tent allows it, push the front bracket further forward for the best overall load distribution.
Most of the support is needed at the rear near the pivot. Getting the rear bracket position right is the single most important piece of mounting advice for this awning.
Universal brackets provided by most awning brands rarely work well across the full range of Australian setups. Getting the bracket solution right the first time saves you buying a second set later and protects your rack or canopy warranty.
Contact us before ordering if you are unsure — we will walk you through what works best for your specific vehicle and rack setup.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Rainger Duo 2.5M awning freestanding?
Yes. The Duo 2.5M is a freestanding 270 degree awning — it hangs from your mounting surface (roof rack, canopy rails or rooftop tent) without needing to touch the ground to hold its shape. Once the ratchet rope is tensioned, the awning is set. The telescopic leg can be dropped for optional additional support but is not required. Your rack and brackets must be strong enough to support the awning weight.
How long does it take to set up?
Under 30 seconds once you have done it a couple of times. Unzip the bag, lift it over, release the three nylon straps, connect the ratchet rope, walk the awning around to its full 270 degree position, tension the rope and you are done. One person, no tools, no help needed. It is genuinely one of the easiest large awnings to set up on the market — four arms, one pivot point, one ratchet rope.
What brackets do I need for the 2.5M awning?
Brackets are sold separately because no single bracket fits every rack, canopy and vehicle combination. Rainger offers Revo-X-specific awning brackets that mount directly to the RTT shell tracks, universal 7-way adjustable L-brackets for most roof racks, and guidance on rack-specific options from Rhino Rack, ARB and Front Runner. Contact us with your vehicle and setup details and we will confirm the right bracket before you order.
Does the 2.5M awning work with a roof top tent?
Yes. The 2.5M awning is fully compatible with rooftop tent setups when the correct brackets are used. Not all rooftop tents are built the same — some brands with a dual bottom track will support direct awning mounting, while others may require mounting to the rack separately. The Rainger Revo-X is a complete ecosystem where the tent, awning and brackets are all designed to work together, and we sell purpose-built brackets for direct RTT mounting. For other brands, our universal L-brackets or your rack manufacturer's own brackets may work for independent mounting if direct RTT mounting is not recommended by that manufacturer. Contact us with your setup and we will confirm what works before you buy.
What is the difference between the 2.5M and the 2.0M 6ARM?
The 2.5M is a 4-arm awning with longer 2.5-metre arm reach. The 2.0M 6ARM has 6 arms with 2.0-metre reach and an additional front LED lighting zone with 3 separate controllers. Despite the different arm lengths, the actual square-metre shade coverage is similar because the 6ARM's extra front arms compensate for the shorter reach. It comes down to preference — if you want maximum straight-line reach from the vehicle, the 2.5M delivers that. If you want more comprehensive wall kit coverage and the extra front lighting zone, the 6ARM is the better choice. Both models include D Zip, rear water channel flap and anti-pooling legs.
Can one person set up the 2.5M awning?
Yes. The 4-arm design with one pivot point and one ratchet rope makes this genuinely one of the easiest large awnings to deploy solo. No second person needed for setup or pack-down. At approximately 24kg it is very manageable for one person.
Can I add extra legs to the awning?
Yes. Additional telescopic legs are sold separately. They are the same leg included with the awning — each leg has a spigot that inserts into the end of any awning arm at a position where there is not an arm present. This lets you add support at any point around the awning perimeter where you feel it is needed.
How does the LED lighting work?
The LED strips are built into the awning arms. Once the awning is deployed, plug the 4 push-in connectors into the arms and connect the 2 USB-A dimmer controllers to any USB-A power source — a power bank, vehicle USB outlet, or camp battery system. The power source is not included. Each dimmer controls a separate lighting zone so you can adjust brightness and colour temperature independently.
What is the D Zip and how do I use it?
The D Zip is a zippered opening in the roof of the awning canopy. Unzip it and you have access up to your rooftop tent from underneath. On a ute or canopy setup with a rear-mounted ladder, you can climb up through the D Zip into the tent. It is also handy for passing gear up, letting light through when the awning feels dark, or unzipping to reduce wind catch in gusty conditions. On a wagon with a rear spare tire, you will typically use the side ladder for tent access as normal, but the D Zip is still useful for ventilation and convenience.
Why is the D Zip not common on other awning brands?
Most manufacturers have not worked out how to stop a D Zip from leaking. The Duo awning was designed from the very start with the D Zip in mind. We secured the right waterproof zipper for the application, the awning fabric is PU-lined and vacuum heat-sealed around the seams, and the D Zip shape is engineered so that water runs around the outskirts of the opening as it flows down the fabric — meaning very little water ever reaches the zip face. A protective top flap adds a further layer of water diversion. The result is a reliable, no-compromise D Zip that we include as standard — we do not even charge extra for it like most brands do.
My vehicle has a lift-up tailgate. Will the 2.5M awning work?
In this setup, the awning should be mounted as high as possible. In some cases the tailgate may still contact the awning fabric when opened. If this is a real concern for your vehicle, consider the Rainger Duo 180 Degree Awning instead — it is fully side-mounted and will not interfere with any rear lift-up tailgate. Contact us with your vehicle details and we can advise which model suits best.
Will the 2.5M awning handle strong wind?
The awning handles moderate wind well when the ratchet rope is properly tensioned. In gusty conditions, use the arm-end tie-down points with guy ropes and pegs for additional anchoring. You can also unzip the D Zip to let wind pass through instead of catching the full canvas area. The anti-pooling legs and rain tabs help maintain canvas shape in rain and wind. Like any fabric awning, it should be packed away in severe storm conditions to avoid damage.
