Standard beach towels are about 150 x 75cm. This one is 170cm across - you can both lie on it, turn it to follow the sun, and nobody ends up with a corner in the sand.
The sand-free bit is the point
The 400gsm microfibre weave does not trap sand the way looped cotton terry does. Shake it once and the sand drops off - it does not ride home in your boot, through the camper, or into the tent. Anyone who has vacuumed a 4WD after a beach day knows exactly what that is worth.
It also dries far faster than cotton and packs down flat, so it goes in the car and comes home usable the same day rather than damp in a bag.

How big is it really?

Does the sand actually come off?
Yes. Microfibre has a flat, tight weave rather than the cotton loops that grip sand. A shake clears it. It is the difference between a towel you can throw in the back of the 4WD and one you have to deal with later.
Is microfibre as absorbent as cotton?
At 400gsm it absorbs well and dries much faster than cotton of the same weight. Cotton holds more water but stays damp for hours - which is the wrong trade-off when it lives in a car or a camper.
