Product Description

Your REDARC charger does not come with its fuses. Every BCDC Classic, BCDC Core and BCDC Alpha ships without them, and REDARC names the exact rating each model needs. This is that kit.

REDARC's own technical support team say a failed fuse or fuse holder is one of the most common problems they hear about on dual battery installs. A poor-quality holder does not grip the fuse properly, dirt gets into the contact, resistance rises, heat builds, and the holder melts. It usually gets diagnosed as a blown fuse when the real cause was the holder. These kits use holders and fuses matched to the cable size for the current, so the connection stays solid.

Which kit do I need?

🔴 Read the input and output columns separately. Most models take the same rating at both ends, but the BCDC Core 25A does not - it needs a 40A input fuse and a 60A output fuse, so it takes one of each kit. This catches people out.

Charger Input fuse Output fuse Kit you need
BCDC1225D (Classic 25A) 40A 40A FK40
BCDCN1225 (Core 25A) 40A 60A FK40 + FK60
BCDC1240D (Classic 40A) 60A 60A FK60
BCDCN1240 (Core 40A) 60A 60A FK60
BCDC1250D (Classic 50A) 60A 60A FK60

BCDC Alpha - depends on current AND where it is mounted:

Charger current In-cabin install Engine bay install
25 - 28A (Alpha 25) 40A (FK40) 50A (FK50)
40A 50A (FK50) 60A (FK60)
50 - 55A (Alpha 50) 60A (FK60) 70A (FK70)

REDARC's reason, in their words: fuses installed in an engine bay need to be rated slightly higher than those installed in-cabin, to compensate for higher engine bay temperatures.

So an Alpha 50 mounted in the cabin or canopy takes an FK60. An Alpha 50 mounted in the engine bay takes a higher-rated fuse than this kit provides. Same for an Alpha 25 under the bonnet - that is an FK50, not an FK40. What is in the box (FK60)

  • 2 x fuse holders with fasteners
  • 4 x 60A fuses
  • 4 x cable lugs
  • 4 x adhesive-lined heat shrink
  • Detailed instruction sheet

The FK40 kit is the same construction with 40A fuses.

Fitting

  • Fuses must be mounted within 150mm of the battery positive terminal. The REDARC KIT19 battery-to-fuse cable is made for exactly this run.
  • REDARC recommend keeping the cable between the charger and the auxiliary battery under 1 metre.
  • Genuine REDARC parts, backed by the 2 year Australian warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my REDARC charger come with fuses?

No. REDARC list the input and output fuse rating for every BCDC charger and state that the fuses are not supplied. You need to buy the kit separately, which is what this is.

Which fuse kit suits my charger?

See the table above and read the input and output columns separately. Most models take the same rating at both ends. The exception is the BCDC Core 25A (BCDCN1225), which REDARC spec with a 40A input fuse and a 60A output fuse - so it needs one FK40 and one FK60. For the BCDC Alpha range the rating also depends on whether the unit is mounted in the cabin or the engine bay.

Why does an engine bay install need a bigger fuse?

REDARC state that fuses installed in an engine bay need to be rated slightly higher than those installed in-cabin, to compensate for the higher temperatures in an engine bay.

Where do the fuses have to be mounted?

Within 150mm of the battery positive terminal. REDARC's KIT19 battery-to-fuse cable is made for that run.

Can I just use any fuse holder?

You can, but REDARC's support team report that a failed fuse holder is one of the most common faults they see on dual battery systems. A holder that does not grip the fuse properly builds heat and can melt, taking your charging with it. The kits use holders matched to the cable size for the rated current.
