Rainger Duo 270 Degree Awning - 2.5M - D Zip for RTT

Yes. The Duo 2.5M is a freestanding 270 degree awning - it hangs from your mounting surface (roof rack, canopy rails or rooftop tent) without needing to touch the ground to hold its shape. Once the ratchet rope is tensioned, the awning is set. The telescopic leg can be dropped for optional additional support but is not required. Your rack and brackets must be strong enough to support the awning weight.

Under 30 seconds once you have done it a couple of times. Unzip the bag, lift it over, release the three nylon straps, connect the ratchet rope, walk the awning around to its full 270 degree position, tension the rope and you are done. One person, no tools, no help needed. It is genuinely one of the easiest large awnings to set up on the market - four arms, one pivot point, one ratchet rope.

Brackets are sold separately because no single bracket fits every rack, canopy and vehicle combination. Yes. The 2.5M awning is fully compatible with rooftop tent setups when the correct brackets are used. Not all rooftop tents are built the same - some brands with a dual bottom track will support direct awning mounting, while others may require mounting to the rack separately. The Rainger Revo-X is a complete ecosystem where the tent, awning and brackets are all designed to work together, and we sell purpose-built brackets for direct RTT mounting. For other brands, our universal L-brackets or your rack manufacturer's own brackets may work for independent mounting if direct RTT mounting is not recommended by that manufacturer. The 2.5M is a 4-arm awning with longer 2.5-metre arm reach. The 2.0M 6ARM has 6 arms with 2.0-metre reach, more wall attachment points and wider lighting coverage, with every arm independently switchable. Despite the different arm lengths, the actual square-metre shade coverage is similar because the 6ARM's extra front arms compensate. It comes down to preference - if you want maximum straight-line reach from the vehicle, the 2.5M delivers that. If you want more comprehensive wall kit coverage and more lighting control, the 6ARM is the better choice. Both models include D Zip, rear water channel flap and anti-pooling legs.

Yes. The 4-arm design with one pivot point and one ratchet rope makes this genuinely one of the easiest large awnings to deploy solo. No second person needed for setup or pack-down. At approximately 24kg it is very manageable for one person.

Yes. Additional telescopic legs are sold separately. They are the same leg included with the awning - each leg has a spigot that inserts into the end of any awning arm at a position where there is not an arm present. This lets you add support at any point around the awning perimeter where you feel it is needed.

The LED strips are built into the awning arms. Once the awning is deployed, plug the 4 push-in connectors into the arms and connect the dimmer controllers to any USB-A power source - a power bank, vehicle USB outlet, or camp battery system. The power source is not included. Two dimmer controllers give you independent lighting zones - run warm light at the camp kitchen end and brighter cool light where you are working on gear, or dim everything down for a quiet evening.

The D Zip is a zippered opening in the roof of the awning canopy. Unzip it and you have direct access up to your rooftop tent from underneath. On a ute or canopy setup with a rear-mounted ladder, you can climb up through the D Zip into the tent. It is also handy for passing gear up, letting light through when the awning feels dark, or unzipping to reduce wind catch in gusty conditions. On a wagon with a rear spare tire, you will typically use the side ladder for tent access as normal, but the D Zip is still useful for ventilation and convenience.

Most manufacturers have not worked out how to stop a D Zip from leaking. The Duo awning was designed from the very start with the D Zip in mind. We secured the right waterproof zipper for the application, the awning fabric is PU-lined and vacuum heat-sealed around the seams, and the D Zip shape is engineered so that water runs around the outskirts of the opening as it flows down the fabric - meaning very little water ever reaches the zip face. A protective top flap adds a further layer of water diversion. The result is a reliable, no-compromise D Zip that we include as standard - we do not even charge extra for it like most brands do.

In this setup, the awning should be mounted as high as possible. In some cases the tailgate may still contact the awning fabric when opened. If this is a real concern for your vehicle, consider the Rainger Duo 180 Degree Awning instead - it is fully side-mounted and will not interfere with any rear lift-up tailgate. The awning handles moderate wind well when the ratchet rope is properly tensioned. In gusty conditions, use the arm-end tie-down points with guy ropes and pegs for additional anchoring. You can also unzip the D Zip to let wind pass through instead of catching the full canvas area. The anti-pooling legs and rain tabs help maintain canvas shape in rain and wind. Like any fabric awning, it should be packed away in severe storm conditions to avoid damage.

Air it out before long-term storage. The bag's anti-wick tongue and Velcro storm flaps limit how much water gets into the bag while driving, but they do not eliminate it entirely. Water sitting inside a closed bag for extended periods will cause mould on any canvas, regardless of brand. Check the bag periodically, especially after wet trips, and open it up to dry if needed.
