The REDARC BCDC Alpha50 is REDARC's flagship 50A DC-DC charger. It charges your auxiliary battery from the alternator and from solar, monitors and configures over Bluetooth in the RedVision app, and it will recover a flat start battery at the push of a button.
Rated for engine bay installation, with IP67 / IP69K dust and moisture protection and an operating range of -40C to 85C.
You will also need - your charger does not come with fuses
- Mounted in the cabin, canopy or a battery box? REDARC specify a 60A fuse - our REDARC FK60 Fuse Kit covers it.
- Mounted in the engine bay? REDARC rate engine bay fuses higher to allow for the heat, so on an Alpha 50 that is a 70A fuse. The FK60 is not the right kit for that install - call us on 07 5211 0841 and we will sort the correct one.
- Fuses must sit within 150mm of the battery positive terminal - the REDARC KIT19 battery to fuse cable is made for exactly that run.
- REDARC recommend installation by a qualified auto electrician.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the Alpha50 be mounted in the engine bay?
Yes. REDARC list the BCDC Alpha50 (BCDC12050B) as suitable for engine bay installation, with IP67 / IP69K protection and a -40C to 85C operating range. Note this is not the same product as the Alpha50 R battery manager, which REDARC state is not suitable for the engine bay. An engine bay install also needs a higher fuse rating - 70A rather than 60A.
Alpha 25 or Alpha 50 - which do I need?
Both share the same features - Bluetooth, start battery recovery, IP67 / IP69K and engine bay rating. The difference is charge rate and the size of system they suit. REDARC recommend the Alpha 25 for battery banks of 40 to 300Ah with a solar array up to 500W. If your bank or array is larger than that, the Alpha50 is the one. Always check your battery manufacturer's maximum recommended charge current.
Does it come with fuses?
No. Fuses are not supplied. For an in-cabin or canopy install REDARC specify 60A, which the FK60 kit covers. For an engine bay install the rating goes up to 70A to allow for heat. We stock the FK40 and FK60 kits and the KIT19 battery to fuse cable - call us on 07 5211 0841 and we will confirm the right one for your install.
How is the Alpha different from a BCDC Classic?
The Classic is a very good set-and-forget charger. The Alpha adds Bluetooth monitoring and configuration, flat start battery recovery, an adjustable input current limit to protect the alternator, over-the-air updates, a higher 48V solar input, and a much wider -40C to 85C operating range with IP67 / IP69K sealing. If you want to see and control what your system is doing, that is what you are paying for.
Will it charge lithium?
Yes. It carries profiles for standard lithium (LiFePO4) and heated lithium, as well as AGM, Gel, calcium and standard lead acid.
What is Green Power Priority?
The charger takes solar first and only draws what it still needs from the alternator. Less load on the vehicle, and less fuel used to charge the same battery.
