Product Description
Your REDARC charger does not come with its fuses. REDARC list the input and output fuse rating for every BCDC charger and state that the fuses are not supplied. This is that kit.
REDARC's fuse kits use fuse holders and fuses matched to the cable size for the rated current, so the connection stays solid. A poor-quality holder that does not grip the fuse properly builds resistance and heat, and the fault gets diagnosed as a blown fuse when the holder was the problem.
Which kit do I need?
BCDC Classic and BCDC Core - same rating at input and output, one kit per charger:
| Charger | Input fuse | Output fuse | Kit you need |
|---|---|---|---|
| BCDC1225D (Classic 25A) | 40A | 40A | FK40 |
| BCDCN1225 (Core 25A) | 40A | 40A | FK40 |
| BCDC1240D (Classic 40A) | 60A | 60A | FK60 |
| BCDCN1240 (Core 40A) | 60A | 60A | FK60 |
| BCDC1250D (Classic 50A) | 60A | 60A | FK60 |
BCDC Alpha - depends on where it is mounted:
| Charger | In-cabin install | Engine bay install |
|---|---|---|
| Alpha 25 (BCDC12025B) | 40A (FK40) | 50A (FK50) |
| Alpha 50 (BCDC12050B) | 60A (FK60) | 70A (FK70) |
REDARC's reason, in their words: fuses installed in an engine bay need to be rated slightly higher than those installed in-cabin, to compensate for higher engine bay temperatures.
So an Alpha 50 mounted in the cabin or canopy takes an FK60. The same Alpha 50 in the engine bay takes an FK70. An Alpha 25 under the bonnet takes an FK50, not an FK40. If you are not certain where yours is going, message us before you order and we will confirm it against REDARC's guide.
What is in the box (FK60)
- 2 x fuse holders with fasteners
- 4 x 60A fuses
- 4 x cable lugs
- 4 x adhesive-lined heat shrink
- Detailed instruction sheet
The FK40, FK50 and FK70 kits are the same construction with fuses of that rating.
Fitting
- Fuses mount close to the battery positive terminal: REDARC specify within 100mm for BCDC Core and within 150mm for BCDC Alpha. The REDARC KIT19 battery-to-fuse cable is made for exactly this run.
- Cable from the charger to the auxiliary battery: REDARC specify a maximum of 1 m for BCDC Core and 1.5 m for BCDC Alpha.
- Genuine REDARC parts, backed by the 2 year Australian warranty.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does my REDARC charger come with fuses?
No. REDARC list the input and output fuse rating for every BCDC charger and state that the fuses are not supplied. You need to buy the kit separately, which is what this is.
Which fuse kit suits my charger?
See the tables above. BCDC Classic and Core chargers take the same rating at input and output: 25A models take the FK40, 40A and 50A models take the FK60. For the BCDC Alpha range the rating also depends on whether the unit is mounted in the cabin or the engine bay.
Why does an engine bay install need a bigger fuse?
REDARC state that fuses installed in an engine bay need to be rated slightly higher than those installed in-cabin, to compensate for the higher temperatures in an engine bay.
Where do the fuses have to be mounted?
Close to the battery positive terminal: within 100mm of it for BCDC Core, within 150mm for BCDC Alpha, per the REDARC manuals. REDARC's KIT19 battery-to-fuse cable is made for that run.
Can I just use any fuse holder?
You can, but a holder that does not grip the fuse properly builds heat and can melt, taking your charging with it. REDARC's kits use holders and fuses matched to the cable size for the rated current.
