The oversize-head track bolt that is almost impossible to buy in Australia - now in A4 316 marine stainless. A lot of 270 and 180 degree awnings on the market are built around a 13.8mm / 14mm rear mounting slot, and they ship with an oversize-head bolt to suit it. Every Rainger Duo awning does. So do many others, and the same head runs in M8 channel slider systems.
The catch is what happens later. Misplace the bolts that came with your awning, or need a different length for a thicker bracket, and you will struggle to replace them here - almost no Australian supplier stocks an oversize-head M8. That is the gap we are bridging. We import them properly, in A4 316 marine grade, so the industry has somewhere to go.
Each bolt comes complete with an A4 316 stainless nyloc nut and a stainless mudguard washer. The large washer spreads the load properly over brackets and thin sheet, and the nyloc will not vibrate loose on corrugations.
Why the odd 13.8mm head?
Every off-the-shelf M8 hex sold here has a 13.0mm head. In a 14mm awning track that leaves a full millimetre of play. It still works - plenty of people run a standard M8 and never have a problem - but you have to hold the head square as you tighten, and if you overtighten it the head can turn in the track.
The 13.8mm head fills the channel with just enough clearance to slide. It locks square like a T-bolt, the bigger head simply holds better across the slot, and it tightens with one spanner. That is the whole trick, and that 0.8 of a millimetre is why no local bolt shop has them.
