These plates sit in a channel with a 14mm mouth. A standard M8 hex head measures 13.0mm, so there is about a millimetre of play. It does the job - plenty go out that way without a problem - but hold the head square as you tighten, because if you overtighten it the head can spin in the channel.
The better fit is a 13.8mm oversize head. It fills the channel, bears across more of the slot and sits square on its own. It is also the head a lot of awnings are built around, and one almost no Australian supplier stocks - so if you have lost yours or need a different length, this is the hard one to find: SPECIAL M8 Hex Screw Kit, oversize 13.8mm head, A4 316. Comes with nyloc nuts and mudguard washers in 20mm, 30mm and 45mm.

The Rainger Aluminium RTT Channel Sliding Plates are designed to slide neatly into rooftop tent mounting channels, making alignment and fit-up far easier during installs. Originally supplied with Revo X rooftop tents, these plates are also a handy universal solution for many RTTs, racks, trays and mounting systems that use aluminium channels.
Machined from aluminium and supplied in 4-piece packs, they are ideal for new installs, custom setups, or as spares when you want flexibility without fighting fixed nut positions.
