Everything you need to bolt a roof top tent down, in one box, in the right quantities. No counting out bolts, no second trip to the hardware store when you are two sliders short with the tent already on the roof.
This is a complete four point mounting kit. Four mounting points, two bolts and two channel sliders at each one, with a rubberised clamping plate spreading the load underneath. It suits a roof rack, a tray, or a canopy.
Two things to check before you order
1. Your bar width. The clamping plates suit bars up to 80mm wide. Anything wider than that will need custom clamping plates - talk to us and we will sort something out.
2. Your channel. The sliding plates measure approximately 45mm long x 30mm wide x 6mm thick with an 8mm hole. Full dimensions are on the Aluminium RTT Channel Sliding Plates page. Measure the channel on your tent, rack or tray and compare.
This kit is universal in nature and suits a lot of roof top tents, racks and trays. There are many tents on the market though, and we are not going to pretend it fits every one of them - it may or may not suit yours. If it is close, or you are not sure, send us a photo of your mounting point and we will tell you straight. We would rather talk you out of it than have it turn up and not fit.

The bolt in this kit is the part you cannot buy locally.
It runs an oversize 13.8mm head. Every off-the-shelf M8 hex sold in Australia has a 13.0mm head, and in a 14mm channel that leaves a full millimetre of play. A standard bolt still works, but you have to hold the head square as you tighten, and if you overtighten it the head can spin in the channel. The 13.8mm head fills the channel and sits square on its own.
Almost no Australian supplier stocks an oversize head M8. We import them properly, in A4 316 marine grade stainless, which is why they are in this kit rather than something cheaper.

Why each part is in there
- The sliders drop into your rack, tray or tent channel and move to wherever your mounting point actually is. No drilling, no compromise on position.
- The clamping plates sit between the tent and the hardware. The rubberised face grips instead of slipping, cuts vibration, and stops metal chewing into your rack over a few thousand kilometres of corrugations.
- The bolts pass through the slider, through the clamping plate, and pull the whole stack together. Nyloc nut so it stays done up, mudguard washer so the load is spread rather than concentrated on one small ring of alloy.
Frequently Asked Questions
What size bars does it clamp to?
Up to 80mm wide. That covers most common roof bars and rack rails. If your bars are wider than 80mm you will need custom clamping plates - message us with the width and we will sort it out rather than send you something that will not close up properly.
Will this fit my roof top tent?
It is universal in nature and built around the Rainger Revo-X, and it suits a lot of roof top tents, racks and trays that use a channel. It will not suit every tent on the market though, and we are not going to claim otherwise. Two checks: bars up to 80mm wide, and your channel against the slider dimensions - approximately 45mm x 30mm x 6mm with an 8mm hole, full detail on the Channel Sliding Plates page. If you are unsure, send us a photo of your mounting point before you order.
What if it does not fit once it arrives?
Talk to us before it gets to that. Send a photo of your channel or mounting point and we will tell you honestly whether this suits, or whether you need a different slider, a different bolt length, custom clamping plates, or nothing from us at all. Checking takes a minute and saves everyone the hassle.
Why 45mm bolts?
45mm is the length used on Revo-X roof top tent installs and suits the usual stack of slider, channel, bracket and clamping plate. If your stack is thicker or thinner than standard, message us and we will work out the right length rather than have you guess.
Do I need four mounting points?
Four is the normal arrangement for a hardshell roof top tent and this kit is quantified for it. If your setup uses six, order accordingly or talk to us and we will make up what you need.
Can I buy the parts separately?
Yes, and it costs more. The oversize M8 bolt kits, rubberised clamping plates and aluminium channel sliding plates are all sold individually if you only need one piece, a different bolt length, or the black finish sliders.
What is the difference between the clamping plates and the channel sliders?
Different jobs. The channel slider goes inside the channel and gives the bolt something to pull against, anywhere along its length. The clamping plate sits on the outside and spreads the clamping force across a wider area so the tent is held without point-loading your rack.
Is stainless necessary?
On something bolted to the outside of a vehicle, permanently, on a coastal continent - yes. A4 316 is the marine grade. Zinc-plated hardware looks fine in the shed and looks very different after a couple of beach trips.
