The REDARC BCDC1250D is the highest-output charger in the BCDC Classic range - 50A from the alternator and solar at the same time. It is the one to fit when you are running a big lithium bank, a fridge and an inverter, and you want the batteries back to full in a single day's drive rather than three.
Like the rest of the Classic range it is potted and rated for engine bay installation, as well as cabin, canopy and trailer.
You will also need - your charger does not come with fuses
- REDARC specify a 60A fuse on both the input and the output for this model, and they are not supplied. Our REDARC FK60 Fuse Kit is the matched kit.
- Fuses must sit within 150mm of the battery positive terminal - the REDARC KIT19 battery to fuse cable is made for that run.
- At 50A the cable size matters more than on the smaller units. Undersized cable is the most common cause of a 50A charger never actually delivering 50A. Have an auto electrician size the run, or call us on 07 5211 0841 before you order cable.

Is this the right size?
REDARC's own guide puts the BCDC1250D on battery banks over 200Ah. Under that, the BCDC1240D 40A or the BCDC1225D 25A is the better match. Two things to check before you size up: your battery manufacturer's maximum recommended charge current, and your alternator's spare capacity. A 50A charger on a small alternator with the headlights, aircon and a winch already on it will not find 50A to give you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the BCDC1250D come with fuses?
No. REDARC specify a 60A fuse on both the input and the output and state that they are not supplied. The matched kit is the REDARC FK60. Fuses must be mounted within 150mm of the battery positive terminal.
Will my alternator handle a 50A charger?
The BCDC1250D includes SoftStart, which ramps the draw up rather than loading the alternator instantly. Even so, 50A is a real load on top of everything else the vehicle is running. Check your alternator's rating and its existing load before fitting one. If in doubt, a 40A BCDC1240D on a healthy system charges better than a 50A unit on a stretched one.
What size battery bank does the 50A suit?
REDARC put it on banks over 200Ah. Below that the 40A or 25A models are the better fit. Always check your battery manufacturer's maximum recommended charge current - exceeding it shortens battery life rather than charging usefully faster.
Can it be mounted in the engine bay?
Yes. The BCDC Classic range is potted and rated for engine bay installation, as well as cabin, canopy and trailer. That is the main difference between the Classic and the BCDC Core range, which REDARC state must not be mounted in an engine bay.
What comes in the box?
The charger and its instruction manual. REDARC list the connector type as bare wire, and fuses are not supplied - you will need the FK60 fuse kit and cable sized to your run.
How much solar can I run into it?
Solar input voltage is 9 to 32V, and the charger will switch on from 9V of solar. The 750W figure is the charger's nominal output power, not a solar panel limit - a larger array will not damage it, the charger simply will not exceed its own 50A output.
