The Rainger Revo-X 1.45 is a premium hard shell roof top tent designed to do more than just look good on a parked vehicle. It was built to set up fast, sleep properly, ventilate intelligently, carry its own integrated solar system, and hold up to real Australian touring — with the kind of detail, comfort and serviceability that cheaper tents only pretend to offer.
Just as important, when you buy a Revo-X, you know who is behind it. In an industry full of importers, rebadged products and weak after-sales support, Rainger backs its gear with direct advice, fitment help, spare parts and real product knowledge before and after the sale.
Rainger is known for genuine innovation across multiple product lines. From swags and rooftop tents to awnings, brackets and touring accessories, our focus has always been the same: build smarter products, solve real-world problems, and keep improving the details that matter once you are actually out there using them.

At a glance:
- X-Frame elevation + Rear Fold design for more usable internal space
- 100mm dual-density mattress + 15mm anti-condensation mat
- 5-opening ventilation system with included magnetic USB fans
- 295W integrated solar with internal wiring and 12V hub

X-Frame & Rear Fold — 50% More Space, Engineered to Stay Dry
The Revo-X 1.45 uses an X-Frame elevation system and Rear Fold layout to deliver the kind of usable room most hard shell tents simply do not.
-
30% more usable internal room from the X-Frame elevation design
-
20% more space again from the Rear Fold layout
- Real headroom and foot-end room where campers actually feel it
- Protected top roof vent without giving away weather protection
Most hardshell roof top tents open on a single hinge. The X-Frame uses a crossed-strut elevation system that lifts the shell higher at both the head and foot ends, creating more volume where it matters — sitting up, moving around, getting changed, or spending multiple nights in the tent.
The Rear Fold adds more than just room. On many hard shells, the head-end canvas folds inward and rain naturally runs down toward the sleeping end. The Revo-X changes that path. The Rear Fold extends outward and rearward so the panel no longer acts like a moisture channel above your pillows.
Because the Rear Fold extends under the integrated awning fly, it also allows a protected top roof vent that stays covered from rain. More space, better ventilation, and retained weather protection do not usually come together in a hardshell roof top tent.
The 1.45 suits couples on extended trips or solo travellers who want genuine room to move. Working with a narrower vehicle setup? The Revo-X 1.3 is 150mm narrower across every dimension — same platform, same philosophy, tighter fit.
100mm Mattress — Developed Over 7 Years and Thousands of Swags
The mattress is one of the easiest places for a roof top tent to disappoint. We did not leave it to catalogue foam.
- 100mm dual-density foam
- Eggshell-profile comfort layer
-
1270 x 1970mm sleeping surface
- 15mm anti-condensation mat underneath
- Bedding stores inside when closed
The Revo-X uses a dual-density foam construction with an eggshell-profile top layer. That profile helps distribute body pressure, improve airflow across the sleeping surface, and soften the feel of sleeping above an aluminium shell floor.
These foam specs were developed in direct partnership with our factory over seven years and thousands of swags, based on real-world feedback from Australian campers in conditions ranging from 40-degree coastal Queensland to sub-zero alpine mornings.
The formulation is ours. You will not find this mattress in another roof top tent because it was not pulled from a catalogue. It was purpose-developed for the way Australians actually camp.
Our swag mattresses were a hit, but an RTT mattress has a different job. In a swag, the mattress rolls up, limiting foam density. In a hardshell it does not — so we increased body, tweaked densities, and optimised for a fundamentally different surface. An RTT mattress sits directly on a hard aluminium shell that can be freezing cold or radiating stored heat, so the foam also needs to act as an insulating barrier.
The tent stores your bedding inside when closed. Doona, light pillows and sheets stay in the shell between trips. One strap pulls it down. Four laser-cut latches lock it shut.
320GSM Canvas — SGS Tested, Waterproof, UV Rated, Built to Last
320GSM ripstop canvas with a PU coating rated to 10,000mm hydrostatic head and UV+50 protection. Rear awning fly is 300GSM synthetic at PU 5,000mm UV+50. Every seam sealed. Every opening finished with upgraded heavy-duty nylon edging.
-
SGS tested canvas performance
-
95/100 water repellency result
-
UV Grade 4.5/5 under accelerated testing
- Ripstop grid helps stop tears propagating across a panel
- PU-backed internal walls stay more manageable when moisture forms
We publish these numbers because most competitors do not. Water repellency scored 95 out of 100. UV resistance rated Grade 4.5 out of 5. The fabric is also certified free of harmful phthalates. PU 10,000mm means the canvas resists ten metres of standing water pressure before moisture passes through.
The ripstop grid stops tear propagation. If a thread is damaged by a branch, abrasion or repeated use, the failure is more likely to stop at the next grid point instead of running across the entire panel.
Internal walls are PU-backed and vacuum heat-sealed — not just coated on the outside face. That means any condensation that forms stays on the surface where it can be wiped away, rather than soaking in and sitting damp between trips. Read more on mould prevention, canvas construction, waterproofing and seal integrity, and condensation management.
Every window and door uses superfine anti-cut nylon insect mesh — finer than standard RTT mesh and designed to better handle repeated zipping, abrasion and long-term use.
5 Ventilation Openings — True Crossflow, Condensation Managed at Every Layer
Ventilation is the single biggest difference between a roof top tent that feels easy to live in and one that becomes damp, stuffy and frustrating after a few nights.
- Left full door
- Right full door
- Rear full door
- Front foot-end panel
- Protected top roof vent
- 2 included magnetic USB-rechargeable fans
Most hardshell, clamshell, and wedge-style tents have three openings. The Revo-X has five. Each opens independently, creating true crossflow at different wind angles, campsite orientations and seasons.
The rear canvas door zips from the bottom up, which is effectively unique in this class. Opened with the foot-end panel, it helps create low-level crossflow at mattress height — exactly where cool air pools and the condensation cycle starts.
Two included USB-rechargeable fans mount magnetically near the roof vent. They run on their own internal lithium batteries, so they do not rely on the vehicle power system just to move air overnight. They also detach for use around camp or at home.
Under the mattress, a 15mm anti-condensation mat creates an air gap above the aluminium shell floor. The 100mm mattress insulates from the shell surface. PU-backed wipeable walls help keep any surface moisture manageable. This is a layered system, not one gimmick fix.
We do not claim the Revo-X eliminates condensation. No tent can. Condensation is physics. What the Revo-X does is reduce it substantially compared to conventional hard shells and make any moisture that does form easier to control, dry and clean. Read our condensation guide and storage guide.
295W Integrated Solar — Glass-Framed, Air-Gapped, Not an Afterthought
The Revo-X includes a 295W full-black monocrystalline PERC half-cell solar panel, a purpose-engineered slimline rack, and all internal wiring as standard. No external cables. No secondary purchases. No awkward third-party panel guessing game.
- 295W full-black monocrystalline solar panel
- Internal wiring included as standard
- Dedicated slimline rack with natural air gap beneath panel
- Dual Anderson plugs ready to integrate into your setup
- 12V hub mirrored at both head ends
72 cells in a 6x12 half-cell configuration — 22.23% module efficiency, tested to IEC 60904-9 Class AAA standards. Half-cell design reduces hot-spot temperature and improves output under partial shading from roof bars. One integrated panel instead of two comparable 150W panels saves approximately 8kg and takes up 30% less rack space.
Why a Glass-Framed Panel — Not a Stick-On, Not an Integrated Lid
Semi-flexible stick-on panels bond directly to the tent lid with no air gap, holding more heat and making replacement messy. Integrated lid solar ties the panel directly to the tent structure, limiting future upgrade and service options.
The Revo-X uses a conventional glass-framed module on a dedicated rack with airflow underneath. Cooler cells mean more stable real-world output. If the panel ever needs to be serviced or replaced, it unbolts cleanly without turning the tent lid itself into the problem.
Important — the solar output is unregulated. Vmp 19.31V, Voc 24.30V, Imp 15.28A. You will need a compatible MPPT/PWM regulator or DCDC/BCDC charger with solar input. We stock the Victron 100/20 Smart Solar Regulator as a purpose-matched option. Check with us before you order.

12V Power Hub & Connections
The 12V hub is mirrored at both head ends — not buried at the hard-to-reach foot end. Each side includes a cigarette socket, USB-A, USB-C QC and voltage display. Dual Anderson plugs sit plug-and-play ready on the front underside — grey 12V in, red solar out. A dedicated heat-proof diesel heater port is also built into the system for compatible climate-control setups.
316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel — Specific-Length Hardware Throughout
Every fastener on the Revo-X is 316 marine grade stainless steel. Not 304 stainless. Not coated mild steel. 316 — the same grade used on boat fittings and coastal infrastructure — because Australian camping conditions demand it.
- 316 marine grade stainless throughout
- Specific-length button head set screws matched to each application
- Better long-term corrosion resistance in coastal and off-road environments
- Less risk of incorrect fastener depth damaging channels or shell
Salt air, river crossings and Fraser Island sand quickly expose the difference between properly specced hardware and cheaper alternatives. Inferior 304 stainless or coated hardware often starts showing corrosion far earlier than buyers expect.
Specific-length 316 button head set screws throughout — not a one-size-fits-all bolt approach. 10mm for solar rack to tent. 12mm for awning brackets. 14mm for solar rack extrusions. 20mm for solar rack to solar panel nutserts. Each length is matched to its job so nothing bottoms out into the T-slot channels and damages the tent shell underneath.
Weight Transparency — 120.7kg All-In
Tent: 98kg. Solar panel + rack: 22.7kg. Total installed weight: approximately 120.7kg.
That is the real installed number — not just the shell by itself. We include the tent body, canvas, 295W solar panel, rack and internal wiring because that is how the tent is actually going to be used.
Most competitors quote “tent weight” only, then leave the rest to be added later. Once you add solar, rack and wiring to many competing setups, their final installed weight is often much closer than the headline number suggests.
For most touring vehicles with a properly rated roof rack or canopy, 120kg is well within dynamic load limits. Unsure? Contact us before you order and we will confirm compatibility before anything ships.
Stabilus Gas Struts & Hidden Seal System
Stabilus German-Engineered Gas Struts
The Revo-X uses Stabilus German-engineered gas struts — a globally recognised brand used across automotive, aerospace and industrial applications. Specced for the weight of this shell across years of repeated use, not just for showroom feel on day one.
A strut that loses pressure in year two means a heavy shell that no longer assists opening. Stabilus struts are easily sourced and stocked by us as replacement parts. Read about why gas strut quality matters in a hardshell RTT.
Hidden Seal System — How the Shell Stays Weathertight
Most hardshell tents run an exposed rubber seal around the perimeter where it is directly hit by UV, rain and grime. The Revo-X uses a hidden seal system: the rubber sits recessed behind the lower lip of the extruded top shell, better protected from direct exposure.
The alloy extends approximately 10mm past the seal with an outward flare that helps flick water away from the gap. The gap between shell lips when closed is approximately 2mm, meaning water has a much harder path to travel before reaching the sealing face than it does on an exposed-seal design.
The canvas closes neatly inside the shell geometry — no fabric edge exposed to wick moisture inward. Pack-up geometry keeps canvas clear of the seal zone when closed.
Hinge Geometry — Even Compression Over Seal Thickness
On poorly resolved X-frame designs, the frame can still be under load when the shell contacts the seal, holding the front edge slightly lifted. The Revo-X X-frame and strut system unloads forces in the last 10–15mm of closing travel. The shell lines up square, drops cleanly onto the seal face, and compresses evenly via four laser-cut adjustable latches spaced around the perimeter.
Read the full seal moisture diagnosis guide — why most of what people call a “leak” is not one.
Why We Built the Revo-X Differently
Seven years manufacturing thousands of swags taught us what actually goes wrong when Australians sleep outdoors. Thin mattresses. Weak airflow. Undersized power options. Materials that look fine in a showroom but show their shortfalls after real use.
The Revo-X project started with a simple goal: build a hard shell roof top tent that felt better resolved from the start. Not a generic import with a few features bolted on, but a system where the mattress, ventilation, solar integration, weather sealing and serviceability all worked together.
That same approach runs across the wider Rainger range. We are not interested in chasing the lowest common denominator. We would rather innovate properly, refine the details, and back the product long after the first sale.

Speak to the People Who Built It
When you call Rainger, you get us. Not a call centre. Not a bot. The people who answer your questions are the same people who worked through the mattress, chose the canvas, CAD-drew the solar rack, and tested the tent on their own vehicles. A serious purchase deserves a direct conversation with the people behind the product.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Revo-X get condensation?
Yes — every roof top tent does. Condensation is physics, not a design flaw. What the Revo-X does differently is significantly reduce it through five independent ventilation openings for true crossflow, two magnetic USB fans for active airflow, a 15mm anti-condensation mat creating an air gap above the shell floor, and PU-backed wipeable internal walls that do not absorb moisture. Any condensation that forms wipes off rather than soaking into the canvas.
How much does the Revo-X 1.45 weigh fully installed?
Approximately 120.7kg all-in — that includes the tent (98kg), the 295W solar panel, slimline rack, and all internal wiring (22.7kg). We publish the total installed weight because most competitors only quote the shell weight without solar or rack, making direct comparisons misleading.
Do I need a solar regulator with the Revo-X?
Yes — the 295W panel output is unregulated (Vmp 19.31V, Voc 24.30V). You will need either a standalone MPPT/PWM solar regulator or a DCDC/BCDC charger with a solar input. Many popular units from Redarc, Projecta, Enerdrive and Renogy will accept the feed directly. We stock the Victron 100/20 Smart Solar as a purpose-matched option. Contact us before ordering and we will confirm compatibility with your specific setup.
What vehicles does the Revo-X fit?
The Revo-X mounts to touring vehicles, alloy ute canopies and load bar setups, camper trailers, and jet ski or motorbike trailers. Rhino Rack, ARB, and Front Runner systems may need additional mounting hardware. Contact us before you order and we will confirm compatibility with your specific setup before anything ships.
Can I store bedding inside the tent when it's closed?
Yes. The Revo-X stores your doona, light pillows, and sheets inside the shell between trips. One strap pulls the tent down, four laser-cut latches lock it shut. You do not need a separate bedding bag or to strip the bed each time.
What's the difference between the 1.45 and the 1.3?
The 1.45 is 150mm wider across every external dimension — same tent, same spec, same features. The 1.45 suits couples and anyone who wants more room. The 1.3 is better for solo travellers, lighter-packing couples, or narrower vehicle and canopy setups where the tighter footprint matters.
Can I replace the canvas if it gets damaged?
Yes. The canvas body unzips from the top and rotates out via a bottom sail track system. If the canvas is ever damaged or reaches end of life after years of hard use, it can be replaced without buying a new tent. Canvas replacements and every other serviceable component are available through our spares range.
Where can I see the Revo-X in person before buying?
The Revo-X is available to view open and set up at Rainger HQ in Baringa (Sunshine Coast QLD) by appointment, Roam Offroad in Gawler (Adelaide SA), and Norweld in Newcastle (NSW). We also attend camping and 4WD shows throughout the year — contact us to find out where we'll be next.
